Mysuru : Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus successfully hosted the inauguration of “Spark Interest in Science” program organized by Bhramara Trust of Y.T. and Madhuri That hachari on September 20, 2024. The event, aimed at fostering scientific curiosity among students and young researchers.
The event was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Shri. Yaduveer Krishna datta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Maharaja of Mysuru and Honourable Member of Parliament from Mysuru – Kodagu Lok Sabha Constituency. In his address, Shri. Yaduveer stressed that science is not confined to textbooks or laboratories; instead, it is an integral part of everyday life that influences numerous aspects of society. He highlighted the importance of regularly conducting scientific experiments, not just as academic exercises but as essential activities that contribute to the betterment of society.
Drawing attention to India’s rich scientific heritage, Yaduveer encouraged students to take pride in the state and country’s historical contributions to science. He urged the young audience to explore and build upon this legacy, fostering innovation and making meaningful advances that reflect India’s long-standing tradition of scientific inquiry and discovery.
The highlight of the program was a live demonstration of chemistry experiments led by Prof. Uday Maitra, a Shantiswarup Bhatnagar awardee and Honorary Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Prof. Maitra captivated the audience with engaging experiments that showcased the practical applications of scientific concepts.
Prof. Samita Maitra, from the Department of Chemical Engineering at BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru, also conducted demonstrations that were both educational and inspiring, further igniting the scientific spirit among students and attendees.
Demonstrations of various experiments on essential chemistry concepts, including checking the density of water and the popular “elephant toothpaste” reaction, among others, were held. The spectacular demonstration of light scattering using chemiluminescent materials captivated the attention of the young audience.
The aim behind demonstrating these experiments is to show the practical applications of scientific principles, spark curiosity, and encourage students to explore and appreciate the wonders of chemistry in everyday life.
The event concluded with an interactive session where students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the scientists. The initiative was well received and is expected to inspire many young students to pursue careers in science. Over 250 students from different schools and colleges were participated in this event.
Madhuri That hachari, Founder and Managing Trustee, Bhramara Trust of Y.T. and Madhuri That hachari and Br. Prasadamrita Chaitanya of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Mysuru graced the occasion.
