The first artificial intelligence (AI) news presenter in south India, Soundarya, debuted on the Kannada news channel Power TV. The channel debuted its first news program with Soundarya, which was a big advancement for the Indian TV news sector.
During the show, Soundarya introduced herself, acknowledging the growing presence of AI across various industries, including television news. She stated, “Hello everyone. AI is leaving its footprint in every industry, and it has entered the TV news industry as well. A few of my colleagues (AI news presenters) have already started presenting news in some channels in north India. I am Soundarya, south India’s first robotic anchor by Power TV.” The channel plans to experiment with different news shows featuring Soundarya as the AI presenter.
Power TV is not the only channel using AI news presenters in its programming. Other television networks in the nation have also debuted their own AI-powered newscasters. Recently, an Odia channel called OTV debuted Lisa as its first AI news presenter, and many viewers were amazed with her faultless news delivery in both English and Odia.
Sana was the nation’s first AI news presenter, and she debuted on Hindi channel Aaj Tak earlier this year under the India Today group. This development is regarded as an exciting turning point in Indian TV journalism, even though there is still a long way to go before seamless AI news presenters totally replace human news presenters.
The emergence of AI news presenters raises questions about the future of journalism and the role of AI in the media industry. It remains to be seen how this technology will evolve and impact the field of news presentation in the coming years.
