Bengaluru: Minister of Forests, Ecology and Environment Eshwara Khandre has promised to revive the small zoo Jinkevana near Sogal Someshwara Temple, a holy shrine in Belagavi District, or to look into constructing a bird sanctuary at the same place.
The Minister Eshwara Khandre consulted with the delegation led by Bailahongala MLA Mahantesh Shivananda Koujalagi who met at his office in Bengaluru, and it is informed that this deer forest is being closed as per the order of the Central Zoo Authority. He said that it was discussed that of restructuring of the deer forest or building a bird sanctuary in the same place and creating more attraction for the tourists coming to this place.
The Minister directed the officials to submit a proposal to build an bird sanctuary here so that the people coming to this place can get acquainted with different species of birds.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) Rajeev Ranjan, Deputy Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Principal Secretary (Forest) Sanjay S. Bijoor, Deputy Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Kumar Pushkar, Deputy Principal Chief Conservators of Forests and Principal Secretaries (Environment) Vijay Mohan Raj, Belgaum Chief Conservator of Forests Manjunath R. Chavan and others were present.
On the same occasion, a unit to generate electricity from waste that was not separated at the source was also discussed.
