The report further claimed that the company had been researching on the matter since 2019, which was also backed up by a team of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
Moreover, the chip will be further implemented to train large-language models and interfaces, which will be required for the generative AI that will process large amounts of raw data, establish patterns to create information that will mimic conversations similar to a human.
The creation of such chips will generate better results rather than getting such product from vendors outside the organisation. The report stated that it would help the firm cut costs and save time simultaneously. Earlier this year, Microsoft launched Bing, which works with AI after the partnership with OpenAI. The search engine will be AI-based with unique capabilities, trying to compete with Google.
The in-house chip would be pushed on its other applications such as GitHub and Office apps such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Nvidia currently leads the market with their renowned key chip supplying outlet. Many firms such as Meta and Amazon have their own chips, but many firms somehow rely on Nvidia to train large language models.
There are claims that the chips might become available in 2024 and a comprehensive plan for developing more sophisticated chips is expected in the following years. The assertion is also made that Microsoft’s chips are not meant to substitute the Nvidia A100; instead, they might be a more economical alternative for companies seeking to use AI in less demanding applications.
