Bengaluru: In the wake of the public discontentment of the MLAs, the Congress has resorted to the tactic of giving them a place in Corporations and Boards to pacify them.
Accordingly, the ruling Congress is gearing up for another important task of distributing power to its MLAs, leaders and workers. A committee is being constituted to prepare a list for allocation of powers under the criteria for nomination of Chairman, Vice-President and Members to Corporations, Boards and Authorities.
The Congress wants to boost the morale of its workers for the Lok Sabha and local body elections. For this, the committee is entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a list of those who are eligible to enjoy power and privileges on the basis of party loyalty, service and seniority.
This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, who is also the KPCC President, at the Congress Legislature Party meeting. The list prepared by the committee will be reviewed by State In-Charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, the CM, Deputy CM and other dignitaries and the nomination process will be completed by the end of August. Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi had promised to give status to leaders and workers who are active in the party’s organisation.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wants to give the post of Chairman of the Corporation and Board along with Cabinet rank to several senior MLAs who did not get a berth in the Cabinet. The High Command did not agree to the request of the MLCs who wanted tickets for the Assembly elections and promised to accommodate 3-4 members of the Legislative Council in the new Government’s Cabinet. However, as there has been no response to this expectation, a greater opportunity is expected for members of the Upper House in this nomination. It is certain that the posts of Chairman and Vice-President of major Corporations and Boards will be given to MLAs.
