Several badminton players have unfortunately withdrawn from the Australia Open tournament, leaving fans and organisers disappointed. The withdrawal list includes some notable names from the badminton world.
Several athletes who had entered the Australia Open 2023, have withdrawn from the event due to several reasons – with one of the main reasons being taking adequate rest after a two week Asian leg. Top three men’s singles Chinese players – Shi Yuqi, All England champion Li ShiFeng, and Lu Guangzu have confirmed their exit from the tournament.
In the women’s singles, WR-1, An Se Young after winning the Japan Open last week has given Australia Open a miss alongside Japan’s Nidaira.
Seventh seeds, Choi Sol Gyu /Kim Won Ho and India’s number two doubles duo of MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila have made themselves unavailable from the tournament. MR Arjun in particular was suffering from a back strain which resulted in the pair exiting midway in the opening games at the Korea and Japan Open.
Top seeds in both the women’s (Baek Ha Na/Lee So Hee) and mixed doubles (Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino) exited before the start of the tournament. Meanwhile, Ashwinin Ponnappa will be taking part in both the women’s doubles with Tanisha Crasto and mixed doubles with Sumeeth Reddy after few withdrawals in both the categories of Australian Open 2023.
