Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, the Former State Fisheries and Sports Minister, and now a BJP member, has expressed his readiness to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Constituency on a BJP ticket.
Speaking to reporters at his residence on August 4 evening, he confidently positioned himself as a strong contender for the party’s nomination. However, he humbly acknowledged that the final decision rests with the party leadership and pledged his wholehearted support to the chosen candidate if he is not selected.
Dispelling recent rumours of his supposed plans to leave the BJP, Madhwaraj firmly refuted such speculations, asserting his unwavering dedication to the party. He made it clear that he intends to remain a loyal party worker until his last day in politics or his retirement, whichever comes first. Despite his optimism about securing the ticket due to his strong aspirations, he acknowledged the inherent uncertainties in the selection process.
Looking beyond his candidacy, Madhwaraj confidently predicted that the opposition bloc, I.N.D.I.A, would crumble if they prematurely announce their Prime Ministerial candidate ahead of the Lok Sabha election. In contrast, he expressed full faith in the leadership of Narendra Modi and the BJP, emphasising that the NDA would secure victory and form the Government. He staunchly believes that the people of India desire a secure nation, which will ultimately lead to Narendra Modi’s re-election as Prime Minister.
Despite Madhwaraj’s conviction and aspirations, his statements to the media have drawn criticism from Udupi District BJP President Kuyilady Suresh Nayak. Nayak disapprovingly added that such behaviour is not aligned with the party’s culture, emphasising that leaders seeking tickets should address such matters within the appropriate forums of the party. He has expressed his intention to bring the issue of Pramod Madhwaraj’s statements to the attention of the state BJP President.
