The language of the state is a basic and also an important aspect in learning the features of any state or district. The Kannada language of Karnataka too is crowned for it being one among the ancient Dravidian languages.
In an era, where English language knowledge is greatly looked upon, the state language is slow and steadily declining. Our Karnataka too is no exceptional to this. It is tragic to learn that, there exists several districts in Northern part of Karnataka where, the state language Kannada, is treated as an alien language. The districts having its history of non Kannada rulers, have least Kannada speakers even post six decades of reorganisation of states.
While cities like Bengaluru is witnessing the vandalism and moral policing in the name of imposing Kannada on non-Kannadigas, shameful is our lack of initiation in teaching our own people, the state language.
The Government of the state should take an initiative in compulsory teaching of Kannada language among all the students of the state. The Kannada sangha’s working on protection of the language can too initiate various programmes at grass root levels.
The knowledge of local language not only makes the interaction easy but also makes the residents of the state eligible to take part in several state Government recruitments. An interest has to be developed about the state language, along with giving awareness in importance of knowing the language.
May the process of teaching Kannada language be involved with outcome oriented approach rather following the format of imposition.
