Tech Mahindra, a prominent IT company, has equipped 8,000 employees with skills in artificial intelligence (AI) as it positions itself to meet the growing demand for generative AI and quantum computing.
Harshvendra Soin, the Global Chief People Officer and Head of Marketing at Tech Mahindra, revealed that the company is intensifying its efforts in sectors such as BFSI, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, particularly in regions like the USA.
Soin stated, “Amidst our expanding focus on BFSI, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail sectors in geographies like the USA, Tech Mahindra is investing in quantum computing, cybersecurity, and AI. Our commitment extends to nurturing employee learning and development to cultivate a resilient and future-ready talent pool. In the June 2023 quarter alone, we have trained and enhanced the skills of approximately 8,000 employees in generative AI and other AI platforms.”
Tech Mahindra is persistent in its goals despite a difficult June quarter that saw a 38 per cent fall in net profit to Rs 692.5 crore. In the reported quarter, the company’s revenues decreased to Rs 13,159 crore, a meager 3.5 per cent improvement over the same time last year.
The departing CEO and Managing Director, C P Gurnani, acknowledged the challenges encountered and blamed the Communications, Media, and Entertainment (CME) industry for the shortcomings.
In the face of these difficulties, Tech Mahindra lays its faith in cybersecurity, quantum computing, and generative AI. With an emphasis on 5G linked solutions and networks, as well as experience management as important differentiators, these technologies are expected to fuel growth.
The revolutionary effects of generative AI and quantum computing were stressed by Soin, who described them as game-changers that alter how many businesses function and interact. This quick change highlights the necessity for businesses to use a variety of learning tools and platforms to reskill and upskill their workforce.
