Bengaluru: Large and Medium Industries Minister M. B. Patil said on August 10 that the master plan to develop Tadadi in Uttara Kannada as a world-class tourism spot has been prepared by retaining its ecological sensitiveness intact.
In a meeting convened in Bengaluru with the officials of KSIIDC (Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) and other departments, he said that the required approvals from the concerned authorities including the Environment and Forest Departments of both the Union and state Governments will be obtained expeditiously.
After examining the master plan prepared by iDeCK (Infrastructure Development Corporation Karnataka Ltd.), Minister said, “A few years back there was a thought to develop Tadadi as a port. However, that was dropped after it witnessed strong opposition from the people of that region.”
Now, it has been decided to develop it as an integrated tourism spot under the PPP model at Rs. 300 Crore, Patil added.
Earlier, KSIIDC was made as the nodal agency regarding its development and it would continue as the one, he clarified.
The intended project comprises a hi-tech resort, 184 tree huts, 70 hotel rooms, an eco-friendly walk path, Yoga centre, peddling boat, hanging bridges, and skywalks among other facilities and a global tender will be invited for this, he explained.
Currently, KSIIDC has 1,419 acres of land and another 400 acres need to be handed over by the KPCL. Officials have been instructed to take necessary steps in this direction, he explained.
Saying that the existing mangrove forest will also be retained as it is, he claimed that the iDeCK has done extensive comparative analysis with several coastal tourism centres located worldwide before preparing the master plan.
He also told that a separate entity called ‘Tadadi Eco Tourism Infrastructure Ltd.’ will be established for its comprehensive development.
KSIIDC MD M. R. Ravi, ED Prakasha, and iDeCK CEO Jayakishan were present. ADC of Uttara Kannada, Kumta Assistant Commissioner, and district forest officers participated in the meeting via video conference.
