Udupi: A three-month-old girl named Rishika passed away under circumstances that raised suspicions. The grieving child’s mother, Vani, had prepared to nourish her daughter on August 11 night, only to discover that Rishika remained unresponsive. Swift arrangements were made to rush her to the nearby Brahmavara Hospital, but the hospital authorities pronounced her lifeless upon arrival. The Brahmavara Police has since registered a case under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), marking the onset of an investigation into the incident.
According to informed sources from the police, Vani’s husband, Chandra Naika, had previously succumbed to a heart attack, leaving Vani as the sole caregiver to her three young children. Besides the late Rishika, Vani tended to her four-year-old daughter and infant twins, a son and a daughter, aged three months. On the day of the unfortunate incident, Vani had successfully breastfed her three-month-old son, only to encounter an alarming discovery while attempting to feed her daughter, Rishika. The infant’s body had turned cold, prompting concern and immediate action.
Brahmavara police has taken up the case for further investigation.
