Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport receives thousands of passengers and hundreds of flights every day. Every passenger who arrives from abroad his luggage is checked by customs officials. Knowing about all this, the incident has come to light where a person tried to get gold worth crores of rupees avoiding the security check by authorities.
On the morning of August 18, a passenger who had arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight was seen coming with his luggage bag in a suspicious manner. Nothing was found with him during the inspection. Later, when his luggage bag was scanned, it was found that screws were randomly pitted inside the bag.
The officers who saw the screws found out that it was made with gold and coated them with silver. Thus, when everything was opened, it came to light that 267 grams of gold had been converted into screws, and immediately the accused was taken into custody along with the gold.
One accused has smuggled gold as screws in the luggage bag, while two other passengers have brought gold bars in a synthetic belt worn on the body. Two passengers from Singapore brought more than 2.5 kg of gold chains worth Rs 1.59 Crore in their belts.
Similarly, a passenger who came from Kolkata on a domestic flight brought 30 gold biscuits weighing 600 grams and was caught by the authorities. Depite smugglers coming up with new plans to illegally transport gold without paying taxes, customs officers succeeded in arresting the accused.
