The Yamuna River in Delhi reached the ‘danger’ mark as a result of recent heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand regions. The Central Water Commission (CWC) reported that water level at the Old Railway Bridge had risen to 204.94 metres, above the ‘warning’ threshold of 204.5 metres.
In the wake of torrential rains over a month ago in the river’s catchment area, Delhi encountered severe flooding in various sectors of the city. On July 13, the Yamuna River in Delhi witnessed an unprecedented flood level of 208.66 metres, marking the highest-ever recorded flood level.
Concerns were raised concerning the Hathnikund barrage’s discharge recently since it recently increased to 2.51 lakh cusecs, which is significantly more than the typical discharge of approximately 352 cusecs during dry weather conditions. The Yamuna River reached dangerously high water levels as a result of this higher discharge.
