In order to aid in the investigation of a contentious case of gold smuggling, the government of Nepal has requested assistance from India, China, and Interpol, according to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).
During a press conference, recently, Prachanda accused K. P. Oli, the leader of the main opposition, of corruption and questioned why the opposition is resisting the government’s investigation rather than cooperating.
On July 19, 100 kg of gold that had been cleared by the Customs Department at the International airport was seized by Nepal’s Revenue Investigation Department. Investigations showed that the gold shipment was headed for Delhi and had its origins in China (Hong Kong).
The border conflict with India was resolved, and a deal to buy 10,000 MW of power from Nepal was reached, according to Prime Minister Prachanda, who noted that his June visit to Delhi yielded important accomplishments. Nepal also intends to execute contracts with China for the construction of two transmission lines along their shared border.
Prachanda will visit China for three days in September and deliver a speech to the UN General Assembly in New York on September 21.
