Many a times women have proved that they are far better than men. They are good managers and maintain right balance between the personal and professional arena. Going back in history, we have also seen the women’s integral participation in the political field since the times of Rig Veda.
As the proverb in Kannada goes ‘Thottilu Tooguva Kai Jagavanne Aleetu’, which means that the person who can bear children can lead the nation, we have witnessed throughout our history women who led the dynasty and fought for their kingdoms.
Now in the modern age and particularly in the democratic nation, women have many opportunity to participate in political issues such as voting, and contesting in elections. As we are nearing the Assembly Polls in Karnataka, the interesting fact that one has to know is thatthere are more women voters than men in 17 divisions of Karnataka including Koppal, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalakote and Kalaburagi.
Pointing this statistics, a BJP woman leader said that party will ensure that not a single woman is left behind and that every single will support BJP. The party has uploaded 1 crore selfies with all the women beneficiaries and uploaded them on the NaMo app, she informed.
On the other hand Congress is also attracting the woman voters by assuring Gruhalakshmi Yojana benefits wherein a woman of every BPL family gets Rs. 2000 monthly.
In counter to this, the advertisement by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s Government also listed the Sthree Samarthya scheme which is aimed at women entrepreneurs. The Government also listed the Amrith Self-Help Micro Enterprise scheme under which Rs. 1 lakh was released to 7,500 self-help groups in Karnataka.
Keeping aside all these manifesto the women voters should think of their status in politics. It is good that the schemes regarding women are introduced but the main aspect is still the number of tickets that has been distributed to women by all the three major political parties.
If we observe we realise that none of the political parties have given respectful ticket share to the women in their respective parties. It in fact shows the position women enjoy in these parties.
All in all, the women need to be matured and independent while voting and franchising ones rights.
