In order to display memories in an AI way, Google Photos is introducing a new tool that employs generative AI to build automatically produced collections of images.
The bottom of the app will now include a separate “Memories” page where users may browse these automatically assembled photo and video collections. Thanks to the generative AI function, these collections will now have titles that are more witty and descriptive.
The new feature, referred to as “help me title,” employs generative AI to generate captions for images based on their content. Users can also provide a hint to guide the AI towards generating a suitable title.
As an illustration, if a user has a collection of pictures from a trip to Paris, they might give a suggestion like “romantic” or “adventure,” leading to titles like “A Romantic Getaway in Paris” or “An Adventure in the City of Lights.”
The existing Sharing button at the bottom of the app has been replaced by this new capability. The revised Memories tab is currently only available in the United States, but it will eventually be made available everywhere.
Google also intends to provide users the option to export these Memories into videos, making it simple to share them on other platforms.
The development of this function is in line with Google’s emphasis on incorporating generative AI throughout all of its products, as evidenced by the most recent announcement of an AI-powered translation option for Gmail.
