Bengaluru: The state Government is considering evolving programs in order to create awareness among students about water conservation on the lines of what Israel has done, Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology Minister Bose Raju said here on September 7.
Minister Bose Raju spoke to the mediapersons after the courtesy call by Israel’s Consul General, Tammy Ben-Haim in Vikasa Soudha. The Minister said the availability of water in Israel is very low. Yet Israel has been efficiently managing water conservation due to vigorous and intensive awareness campaign.
“This has resulted in the people realising the importance of water. We intend to take up such awareness campaign by the Department of Groundwater Directorate to educate the students and general public,” the Minor Irrigation Minister explained. He directed the officials to explore the options and possibilities for partnering in matters related to Science and Technology.
In his address, Israel’s Consul General, Tammy Ben-Haim, said her country has conducted extensive research in the fields of water conservation, agriculture, and irrigation. “We are glad to share our water management techniques with the Karnataka government,” the visiting dignitary added.
Simultaneously, Tammy Ben-Haim showed interest in the proposed science city in Bengaluru. Senior officials from the Department of Science and Technology as well as Minor Irrigation were present on the occasion.
