Sullia: The All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjuna Kharge, made scathing attack on the BJP and said it was the most corrupt State Government he had ever seen in his 40 years of public life.
He was addressing a public meeting here on April 25, kicking off the campaign for his party. We, as citizens and voters of the state must remove corrupt governments. My statement is vindicated in many ways, particularly the 40 per cent commission, he added.
“Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have given four nationalised banks, but after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government has come, many banks of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have been merged with banks born in Gujarat, Why, What was the need?,” Kharge said, describing the coastal people as hardworking and financial wizards. The people have a right to know, he proclaimed.
Before that, according to Kharge, the wealthy controlled all banks. Congress-led administrations, particularly those presided over by Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, brought about a change in this.
Prime Minister Modi has claimed that no development has occurred in the past 70 years, ever since the BJP took office. But after reviewing the past, I can see that the construction of the Karnataka Regional Engineering College, bridges over seven rivers, the airport, the New Mangalore port, the railways, and other infrastructure occurred under the Congress administration. These are developments. Are they not? All of these developments have been made by the Congress Party and the Congress Party-led Government, he said.
Under the direction of the Congress, over 70% of the population increased their literacy over the past 70 years, and the country developed the ability to launch satellites for international space agencies. Instead, by dividing society along lines of caste, community, and religion, the BJP incited conflict between people, he alleged.
In order to make it easier for the underprivileged to pursue professional studies, he declared that the Congress party would establish a government medical college and engineering college in the Dakshina Kannada District if it were to win the election. We introduced the MNREGA program and provided free grain distribution to the underprivileged, he said.
