Bengaluru: Karnataka is gearing up for an extended wet spell as the Meteorological Department forecasts widespread and heavy rainfall across the state over the next four days, starting from September 29. The Met Department has issued alerts for specific districts, urging residents and authorities to be prepared.
On September 29, a yellow alert was sounded for several regions, including coastal Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, north interior Bidar, south interior Chikkaballapur, and Kolar districts. This warning suggests that heavy rainfall may be in store for these areas.
From September 30 onwards, an orange alert looms over Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts. Additionally, a yellow alert extends to Kalaburgi, Dharwad, and Chikmagalur districts in the northern hinterland.
Coastal regions are particularly susceptible, with an orange alert continuing for all coastal districts on October 1 and a persistent yellow alert for Dakshina Kannada district on October 2. The southwest monsoon has made its presence felt across coastal and northern interior areas, though it remains weaker over the southern interior.
Notable rainfall measurements include 5 cm in Udupi district, Karkala, Kota, and Naragunda of Gadag district, and 4 cm in Mangaluru, Karwar, Uttara Kannada district, and Kukanur of Koppal district.
Dakshina Kannada district has endured consistent rainfall over the past four to five days, with the Meteorological Department extending an orange alert for three more days. Mangalore city and its vicinity have witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, with cloudy skies offering limited respite.
Haveri has experienced sporadic rain, leaving residents with a chill in the air. Over the past few days, the weather has been predominantly overcast with occasional showers. On Thursday evening, light rain provided temporary relief from the gloom, followed by intermittent cloudy spells.
In the hilly areas of Uttara Kannada district, cloudy weather has prevailed for the past three to four days, accompanied by frequent rain spells, albeit not of considerable intensity. Yallapur witnessed heavy rain on a Wednesday afternoon, and Siddapur experienced continuous cloudiness with light drizzles. However, rain in Haliyala and Mundagod areas has been limited.
Davangere district has experienced scattered rainfall, with some regions receiving much-needed moisture for their paddy crops. The Meteorological Department has projected moderate rain in the district for the next four days, with varying rainfall estimates for different taluks.
In the coming days, it is crucial for residents and authorities across Karnataka to remain vigilant and stay updated on weather forecasts as the state navigates through this well-deserved extended rainy spell.
