Bengaluru: A modern camera installed under the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Traffic Management System (ITMS) to detect traffic violations resulted in 18.34 lakh cases being registered in three months. A fine of Rs. 80.61 crore has been imposed.
Around 250 artificial intelligence cameras have been installed at 50 junctions in the city to issue fines to vehicle owners who violate the rules. Cameras are active 24 hours a day, clicking photos of violators. Based on the vehicle registration number, messages about fines are being sent to the owners through ITMS. Violation of over speeding, signal jump, zebra crossing, driving without helmet, triple riding and mobile usage while driving will be caught on camera.
It is our duty to make arrangements for smooth flow of traffic. It would take a lot of time to detect violations. Thus, an automatic camera is installed. “Thousands of cases are being registered every day,” said Special Commissioner (Traffic) M. A. Saleem.
Helmets have been made mandatory for two-wheeler riders and rear riders. The cameras have captured the photos of the rider and the pillion rider who were riding the two-wheeler without wearing a helmet. Around 10.50 lakh people who violated the rules have been fined and a message has also been sent to them, said the traffic police.
‘1,197 accidents, 205 deaths’
From January to the end of March 2023, 1197 accidents occurred in the city. 205 people have died in this, said the traffic police.
