Have you ever wondered how it would be to go back in time? To those days when you were just a kid wanting to have your favourite chocolate. When riding your bicycle would wash away all your stress. Quiet fun days, I must say.
In the German-based series ‘Dark’, the character travels back in time and also in the future, leaving the audience (and myself) in awe.
Time runs and waits for none is a saying that’s been old and told for ages. But what if you could actually go back in time? Just to have that one moment back and meet people that you thought would be there forever. Speaking of scientists who have devoted their lives to decoding the real truth behind these thoughts, here are some concepts that could actually let you go back in time.
Parallel Universe
One of the most controversial theories of time, the multiverse theory tops the list. This theory claims that you are not the only one, but probably there’s another you reading this article right now. Meaning there could be multiple versions of people living in alternative places – making history at a time. The universe is huge. Around billions of years ago, the big bang occurred to give birth to multiple universes. The truth is, we are just a speck of dust out there.
The Wormhole Theory
Also known as the Einstein-Rosen bridge, a wormhole is a hypothetical structure that connects two different points in spacetime. It is mainly based on one of the special solutions from the Einstein field equations. To make it easier, imagine the wormhole to be a tunnel which consists of two ends at separate points present in spacetime. It can be varied locations or even points in time and a combination of two! It can even connect different universes.
Block Universe Theory
The theory states that spacetime is nothing but a four-dimensional “block” that consists of all events from three stages of time: the past, present, and future. Meaning, if one moves through this block, they would end up accessing different histories of the timeline. How fascinating that could be?
The Grandfather Paradox
Imagine this: You travel back in time and assassinate your grandfather when he was in his childhood. This leads to a situation where your parents were never born at all. Meaning, you would cease to exist and wouldn’t even be here right now. So who actually killed the grandfather? The predicted outcome? Uncertain. Thus, the consistency paradox happens when one manipulates the past that results in contradiction.
Quantum Entanglement
Some scientists believe that the theory of quantum entanglement can permit traveling through time with the help of connecting particles. However, the use of entangled particles to transmit objects and information between various points in time remains hypothetical. So no matter what lies between these two particles, even millions of years, they would still be connected and would have a reason for any changes that occur between them.
Although all of these are theories, time can be subjective. So the answer to if you can time travel – is a yes. You are reading this article, trying to juggle several other things. You live the same days in a week, with the same feelings revolving every single day. To end this on a good note, the clock strikes the same number every single day. What if time never changed, and is nothing but a big circle that doesn’t have an end?
