New Delhi: As per the MCC and legal framework, the Election Commission through notice has demanded a public submission by Congress on May 7, 2023, by 7.00 pm for the advertisement published by Congress accusing the BJP of corruption by 40% Commission. It adds, “if the leaders fail to testify, the CEC has warned of action for violating the MCC and relevant statutory provisions under the RP Act and IPC.”
The CEC has made it clear that if there is no response from Congress leaders within the stipulated time, it will be assumed that they have nothing to say in their defence. In such a case, the Election Commission will take appropriate action in the matter without making any further reference.
The Election Commission has been vigilant about any violations of the MCC in the run-up to the 2023 general elections. The notice to Congress leaders is a clear indication that the Commission is taking all necessary steps to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
