Have you ever seen a car, that resembles a discotheque? Flashy lights and loud music? I have seen so many, when I go for my evening walk. I always wondered, is there no rule against such modification. These flashy vehicles can damage your eye sight. It could cause so much confusion on road. I
did my research and found a few points on what kind of modification can be done and what is illegal modification.
• One can modify the tyres of the car.
• Changing the colour of the car. In
• Upgrading the suspension of the car to improve its driving performance.
• Body wrapping, this is usually done to protect the car’s factory paint.
• Installation of CNG kits, with the approval from RTO, that is you need to the register the installation, after which, you will
receive an updated registration certificate.
• LED DRLS can be installed, this helps during rains or dense fog.
• Making changes that are for the comfort of differently-abled.
• Engine can also be modified, under permissible limits.
Modifications that are considered offence and are fineable. And they are as follows:
• Tinted window glasses that have visibility lower than 50%. The rear window and windscreen should have 70% visibility.
• Loud and fancy horns aren’t allowed. Horns, louder than 100 decibels should not be installed.
• One cannot have designer or decorative license plate. The fonts have to be legible as per the guidelines and also should be embossed
with IND.
• Installing of loud exhaust pipes is illegal, as they cause noise and air pollution. Such pipes cannot undergo Pollution Under
Control test, which is a must in India.
• One can customise their car with alloy wheels, but not oversized ones, that is alloy wheels larger than the car.
Not following the guidelines could lead to heavy fines or even legal action. Yet, we see people making modifications and alterations to their car which is illegal and can cause harm. Car is a mode of transport not a party place or home to add decorative or flashy lights.
Next time you think of making alterations in your car, please read the guidelines and follow them because this is not about your safety alone, it is also for the safety of the society. Rules here are not to be broken.
