Mangalore : After the successful organization of the renowned coastal folk sport, Kambala, in Bengaluru last year, plans are now underway to extend it to the Malnad region for the first time. Preparations are already in place for this expansion.
The Dakshina Kannada District Kambala Committee, in collaboration with Rotary International Districts 3181 and 3182, along with the Shivamogga Kambala Committee, has planned to organize the event at Machenahalli in Shivamogga, the gateway to Malnad, on April 19 and 20, 2025, as announced by Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Kambala Committee, during a press conference.
To conduct this coastal Karnataka folk sport in Shivamogga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the committee will seek the support of former Chief Minister Yediyurappa, former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, and others. The event will be grandly organized with the participation of districts such as Shivamogga, Hassan, Madikeri, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Chitradurga, Haveri, Byndoor, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kasaragod.
Our team will visit Shivamogga to assess the necessary arrangements for Kambala. The event will be conducted in a very disciplined manner, said Deviprasad Shetty.
This time, 25 Kambala events are planned:
It has been decided to organize 25 Kambala events in the coastal region this year, and the dates have also been finalized, he said.
