Bengaluru: In Jayanagara Constituency, BJP’s C. K. Ramamurthy defeated Congress’ Sowmya Reddy by a narrow margin of 16 votes; Congress workers held a protest as they alleged misuse of Government’s Machinery to favour BJP’s candidate.
The counting of votes for the Assembly elections was held on May 13 and Jayanagara Assembly Constituency Congress candidate Soumya Reddy, who had won by a margin of 116 votes on May 13 afternoon, lost by a margin of 16 votes in the recount. Soumya Reddy will file a complaint with the Central Election Commission May 14.

Soumya Reddy, the defeated Congress Candidate from Jayanagara constituency, has said that she will file a complaint with the Central Election Commission for illegally coming and allowing the BJP candidate to win.
The Central Election Commission has finally announced the results of the Jayanagara Assembly constituency, which has been a hotbed of curiosity and anxiety. The Election Commission announced that the BJP candidate had won by a margin of 16 votes despite four repeated recounting. Soumya Reddy, the Congress candidate of Jayanagara constituency, shed tears in the middle of the night as the result of the Jayanagar constituency was announced by the election officials as 57,797 votes for the BJP candidate C. K..Ramamurthy and 57,781 votes for the Congress candidate Soumya Reddy.
Congress candidate Soumya Reddy, who had won by 116 votes in the first round and the result was in the hands of the Congress. Commenting on the Jayanagar result, BJP’s IT Cell head Amit Malviya said, “BJP has won the prestigious Jayanagara seat in Bengaluru despite D. K. Shivakumar and Ramalinga Reddy camping and intimidating the EC officials. Soumya has been Reddy defeated. It was always a BJP seat, nurtured by the late B. N. Vijaykumar.”
There were a total of 2,09,942 voters in Jayanagara Assembly constituency. There are 1,05,582 men and 1,04,345 women. There were 15 candidates in the fray. The voter turnout was 53.72 percent.
