Bengaluru: State Advocate General Prabhulinga Navadagi has resigned from his post as the BJP lost power in the state. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had resigned as the BJP lost its majority in the Assembly elections. After this, Navadagi, who visited Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, submitted his resignation.
Prabhulinga Navadagi, who assumed office as Advocate General in 2019, represented the decisions taken by the State Government during the BJP tenure in the High Court and the Supreme Court. Besides, important issues such as Hijab for Muslim students, 25% reservation for Kannadigas in the National Law School, the State Government’s cancellation of online gaming and amendment to Karnataka Police Act, reservation for Panchamasali Lingayats and also argued strongly on behalf of the State Government in important cases. He stood in support of the judicial struggle for the state.
Son of High Court Justice K. Navadagi, Prabhulinga Navadagi obtained his law degree from Bangalore University Law College. Navadagi started serving as Additional Advocate General in the High Court in 2011. He was promoted as a Senior Advocate in 2014. He also served as Additional Solicitor General in 2015. Meanwhile, Additional Advocate General Dhyan Chinnappa and Arun Shyam have also resigned from their posts.
On May 13, Acting Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also submitted his resignation for the post of Chief Minister after the election results were announced and the Congress won majority. After the election results, Bommai arrived in Bengaluru from Shiggaon and went to Raj Bhavan. Bommai met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan and tendered his resignation. The Governor has instructed Bommai to be the caretaker Chief Minister until the new Chief Minister takes over and accordingly, Bommai will be the caretaker Chief Minister till the formation of the new Government.
Bommai, who was the Chief Minister for 19 months and 17 days, took over as the CM on July 26, 2021. He became the CM due to Yediyurappa’s resignation.
