Summer holidays meant going to our grandparents’ home. The house would be in full swing with preparations to welcome us. They would load our tummies with homemade yummies’. What I loved the most was my granny oiling my hair and giving me tips on ways to take care of my hair.
I had really thick and shiny hair growing up, but then with the use of chemical loaded shampoos and conditioners, I started losing hair a lot. But chemicals are not the only reason for unhealthy hair. It could be because of hormonal imbalance, stress, medications, pollution, etc. I have managed to keep my hair healthy as much as possible with simple hair care routine.
I have oily, fine and wavy hair, you can check what type of hair you have:
• Oily, Normal or Dry
• Wavy, Straight, Curly or Coily
• Thick or Fine
Hair Care Tips:
• Oiling: This not only strengthens the hair, but also nourishes the roots. It can also help in improving the quality of your sleep.
• Shampoo: Choose one that matches your hair type. This helps keeping your hair clean from dust and grease.
• Conditioner:
Conditioning is an important step after shampooing but avoid applying it on the roots. Conditioners moisturise your hair.
• If using hair dryers or any kind of hair styling devices, use heat protectant serum.
• Use lukewarm water to wash hair, avoid very hot water as this could damage the roots and strip your hair off the natural oils.
• Use a wide tooth comb to remove knots, and do not comb while the hair is wet.
• Air drying hair is better for the hair. Hair dryers could damage the hair follicles.
• Trimming your hair on a regular basis is a good practice.
• Eating healthy is a mantra one should follow to have healthy hair.
• Sleep well.
Avoid dyeing or colouring your hair more often.
They are full of chemicals which can cause irreparable damage to your hair.
When out in the sun carry an umbrella or hat to protect your hair from sun damage.
Nourishing your tresses with healthy habits is the only way to have healthy hair. There is no shortcut here.
