Bengaluru: Only a few days are left for the start of the academic year 2023-24. In the midst of this, now the text revision scare has started. Now everyone is wondering whether the newly formed Congress Government will cancel the 95% text revision done during the BJP Government. During the elections, the Congress Government had announced that it would revise the text if it came to power. It has also said that it will revise the text of its Manifesto as well. Thus the teachers are confused. The Education Department has confirmed that the textbook has already been printed after revising the primary and high school syllabus from Class 1 to Class 10.
On the subject of revision of the syllabus, Lokesh Talikatte, President of the Private School Association RUPSA, has already submitted a request to the Government to revise the syllabus. Some texts were dropped during the BJP Government. The text revision conducted by Rohit Chakratheertha, Committee was said to be controversial. The Committee omitted some texts and some revised. Now the RUPSA has demanded to add the abandoned text again.
The Education Department has already revised the text and printed the textbook. It is also learnt that the Education Department has made preparations to supply books to schools. There are more than 72000 government and private aided schools in the state. There are more than 1 Crore children. The Education Department has already spent Rs. 262 Crore on textbook printing. Is it difficult to revise the text after spending so much money? RUPSA President Lokesh Talikatte has demanded to remove some lessons which were included during the revision of the previous government’s syllabus.
Amidst all this, the Centre’s ‘National Education Policy-2020’ (NEP) should be rejected outright in the state, all the changes in the education system during the BJP Government’s tenure including revision of the school curriculum should be abandoned and the ‘State Education Policy’ should be formulated and implemented as per the wish of the Constitution. And the Coordinating Forum of Monitoring Committees have urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Educationist V. P. Niranjanradhya, the founding parent of the monitoring committees , has written to the Chief Minister in this regard, saying that the previous BJP Government used the education sector for politics. So until the new education policy is formulated and implemented in the state, the revision of the curriculum in the BJP Government should be abandoned and the curriculum, ans textbooks a that were in effect in 2017-18 should be continued. They also demanded legal action against Committee Chairman Rohit Chakratheertha.
