Bhopal: In many cities of Karnataka, there are instances that people are not speaking Kannada even though their mother tongue is Kannada. In this background, it is heartening to note that more than 100 villages near Amarakantaka in Madhya Pradesh are known to be Kannada speaking villages.
This came to light when Kannada Organisation organised their 6th Horanadu Kannada Mahamela. Veteran journalist Dr. Patil Puttappa informed about the same in a press conference, recently.
Background:
During the battle between Harshavardhana and Pulakeshi on the banks of Narmada River the soildiers of the state went to Madhya Pradesh with their family, and later settled in that territory. And hence they retained speaking in Kannada, however are not familiar with Kannada script. So Dr. Patil Puttappa had urgedthe then Government to set up Kannada schools in those villages.
How it is a matter of pride for us to know that there are thousands of people who are speaking in Kannada despite being settled in Madhya Pradesh, thus having deep attachment to their roots, even to date.
