A joyous trip to Nandi Hills took a devastating turn for four teenagers from Bengaluru, as they tragically drowned in Ramanathapura Lake near Devanahalli on May 28 evening.
The Superintendent of Police for Bengaluru District, Mallikarjun Baldandi, revealed that the four youth had departed from Bengaluru in the morning and visited Nandi Hills. On their way back to the city, around 4.00 pm, they decided to stop at a lake for some playtime. Unfortunately, one of them lacked swimming skills and began to drown. In a valiant attempt to rescue their friend, all four of them lost their lives.
The authorities were able to recover two bodies, and the hunt for the other two is still ongoing. The finding of a bike and scooter parked at the tank bund, as well as shoes and garments abandoned nearby, sparked suspicion among the residents. Concerned about their whereabouts, the residents immediately notified Vishwanathapura police.
The cops arrived quickly and summoned a rescue team from the fire and emergency services. Despite their best efforts, only two bodies were retrieved. The deceased have been identified as Shahid Ismail and Faizan Khan, while Sheikh Tahir and Tohid Muneer remain missing. All four lads were from Chamundinagar, near R. T. Nagar, and enrolled in a private college for their Pre-University Course (PUC).
The victims’ families and relatives were contacted and rushed to the lake. The bodies were sent to a mortuary for postmortem examinations.
This tragic tragedy serves as a sombre reminder of the hazards of water-related activities, emphasising the significance of prudence and adequate swimming skills. As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, authorities continue their search for the remaining two missing kids. More details awaited.
