Surfing on the West Coast of India
The west coast of India has gained recognition as a surf destination after Mantra Surf Club was established in 2004 by Swami B.G. Narasingha, dearly called the Surfing Swami.
With a vast coastline stretching from the vibrant beaches of Goa to the idyllic shores of Karnataka, the west coast of India offers an enticing blend of tropical landscapes, warm waters, and consistent waves that have attracted surfers of all levels.
Karnataka’s coastline reveals hidden treasures for surfers seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience. Udupi, Mangaluru, and Gokarna have gained recognition for their pristine beaches and consistent surf breaks.
The region’s relatively untouched charm, combined with the opportunity to catch uncrowded waves, has turned it into a favoured destination for those seeking a quieter, more immersive surfing experience.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a curious beginner, these destinations offer a unique surfing scene that blends local charm with the raw power of the ocean. As the sport continues to gain more traction in this region, surf schools, camps, and vibrant surfing communities have emerged, fostering a sense of camaraderie and adventure among those who share a passion for riding waves.
