President Droupadi Murmu, who did not attend the opening ceremony of the new Parliament building on May 28, has conveyed her deep satisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the magnificent structure. Despite several opposition parties boycotting the event due to their disagreement with the decision to have the Prime Minister inaugurate rather than the President, President Murmu expressed her appreciation for the significant milestone.
President Murmu congratulated all involved in the construction of the new Parliament building in a statement read by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh within the Lok Sabha chamber. She acknowledged that their efforts will be imprinted on the Indian people’s hearts and brains. The President praised Prime Minister Modi as a symbol of trust in Parliament and conveyed her delight at the new structure.
President Murmu regards the Parliament as a guiding light for the nation, and the inauguration of the new edifice is a significant step forward in India’s democratic journey. She feels that this historic event will be written down in gold in the annals of the country’s history.
The President emphasised that the new Parliament building will increase the people’s sense of national pride and unity. She sees the event as a tribute to the country’s dedication to preserving and developing its democratic traditions, particularly during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (commemoration of India’s 75th anniversary).
President Murmu believes that Parliament has a special position in the collective psyche of the nation and serves as a beacon for India’s democratic traditions. She emphasised the centrality of democratic discourse, meaningful dialogue, and the sharing of ideas in India’s social and cultural heritage.
The President complimented the Indian Constitution’s founders for envisioning a republic based on the wisdom of democratically elected officials. She praised the progress made in increasing public involvement and empowering the impoverished, which has allowed people from all walks of life to achieve high positions in a variety of disciplines.
She concluded her message by extending her best wishes for the new Parliament House to set new benchmarks for the rich traditions and ideals of India’s democracy. She expressed her belief that the new building will be a testament to the vibrant democratic values of the country.
