Mangaluru: Speaker U. T. Khader of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly expressed immense satisfaction and joy over Mangaluru city being bestowed with the prestigious title of the safest city in the nation by the esteemed international crowdfunding organisation, ‘Numbeo.’
On the announcement about his hometown’s remarkable achievement as one of the most hospitable cities in the world, Khadar remarked, “Mangalore has always been known for its exceptional hospitality throughout recent history. Unfortunately, a few divisive elements attempted to tarnish the city’s reputation through vigilantism and fundamentalist tendencies. However, I am hopeful that those times are behind us now, and Mangalore will experience a smoother journey ahead. I appeal to the people of Mangalore to unite and strive towards securing a permanent position at the pinnacle of the world’s safest cities list.”
The internationally crowd-funded Numbeo survey has positioned Mangaluru at the Numero Uno position, while also ranking it as the 47th safest city globally. The cities of Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat in Gujarat have secured the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, respectively, among the safest cities in India. Hyderabad has claimed the 10th spot, whereas Bengaluru, the beloved city politicians often hold dear, has been positioned at 16th place—a noticeable descent for the city. This decline is particularly noteworthy as politicians shower the city with attention, often neglecting the needs of other cities within the state.
It is worth mentioning that a previous survey had predicted that Bengaluru would become an unlivable city within the next decade.
