Bengaluru: The Lokayukta had registered a voluntary case in connection with the death of a young woman after her car drowned in rainwater at the KR Circle underpass. Now, a team led by Lokayukta IGP Subrahmanyeshwar Rao has visited the incident site and conducted an investigation and gathered information from the BBMP officials.
As he collected the details on what caused the incident? He also got information about what were the underlying problems. By bringing a tanker to the incident spot and draining water, they also checked whether the water flows smoothly into the Rajakaluve.
Later, IGP Subrahmanyeshwar Rao informed media that the KR Circle underpass tragedy is a lesson for all. He advised the BBMP officials at the spot to wake up from this and take urgent action to prevent such mishaps from happening elsewhere.
When it rains in Bengaluru, the rainwater does not flow into the rajakaluve but stands on the roads and forms artificial lakes. A lot of accidents happen because of this, he said and instructed that BBMP who are responsible should get active and carry out urgent work.
A case was registered in the Lokayukta Police unit as per the direction of the Lokayukta. As part of the investigation, Lokayukta Engineering Division officials and BBMP officials have visited the spot. Apparently, the accident occurred due to high flow of water in the drainage system here. In this case they need to find out the problems persisting here. Problems in other underpasses in the city also need to be solved jointly. In addition, if anyone’s negligence is the cause of the accident, we will file a report against them to the Lokayukta, he informed.
On May 21, Infosys employee Bhanurekha died when her car submerged in the KR Circle underpass during heavy rains in the city. Taking the incident seriously, Lokayukta Justice B. S. Patil registered a case as a self-inflicted case and issued a notice to the BBMP officials.
