Bengaluru: Women are all set to travel free of cost in BMTC buses. But what about volvo buses? These buses, which are already a source of high cost, are expected to face further difficulties.
The Government has allowed women passengers in regular buses instead of AC and luxury buses. The project is likely to hit Volvo buses hard. Women passengers travelling in Volvo buses will turn to regular buses as it is free of cost, thus likely hitting Volvo bus collections. It is well known fact that Volvo buses are already plying empty at various places. Meanwhile, the free scheme that has been introduced has created fear that women will not take Volvo buses as frequently anymore
The BMTC had decided to give the buses to North Karnataka due to fall in demand for Volvo buses. However, as these buses have been made ready for the roads of Bengaluru City and due to low ground clearance, it is not possible to drive in the villages. Following this, the plan to provide this bus to North Karnataka failed. Private companies are also more interested in using the newly launched electric vehicles, leaving Volvo buses.
Women can climb from anywhere and dropped anywhere and also they need not purchase bus tickets too.
Now, coming to Volvo, the question before us is then is what will the Government do with the Volvo buses, which are already a white elephant for BMTC?
