Bengaluru: There is an important news for the citizens of Bengaluru. With the increase in the electricity bill, the question arises as to whether the price of water supplied to Bengaluru will go up?
Officials of the Bangalore Water Board are reportedly preparing a proposal again for revision of water tariff.
The Bangalore Water Board is in heavy losses. The authorities argue that the hike in water tariff is inevitable in this context. Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has instructed officials to submit a proposal to the Government.
The water board is preparing to propose a hike of 30 per cent to 40 per cent for domestic use and 45 per cent for commercial use. Earlier, the water tariff was revised nine years ago.
There has been no increase in the price of Cauvery water in Bengaluru since 2014. The power tariff has been revised more than 10 times in 9 years. But water rates have not been revised.
At present, the Water Board is paying Rs. 60-70 Crore as electricity bill every month. But the rate revision has come to the fore as it is incurring losses financially.
