In Dan Brown’s books, you can find fascinating things like mystery, chase, treasure hunt, and adventure. I enjoy reading his books for just this reason. It was after ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ ‘The Lost Symbol,’ was published in 2009. All of the components from ‘The Da Vinci Code” have been included by Dan Brown in this book.
As the novel begins, we are introduced to Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who receives a last-minute invitation from his friend and mentor, Peter Solomon, to give a lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. However, as he arrives, he finds that Peter was not the one who invited him. Langdon finds a strange artefact inside the Capitol Building, which sparks the adventure.
Langdon soon sees the item as a prehistoric invitational symbol. By accepting the invitation and finding the solution, Langdon has the sole chance of rescuing Peter Solomon from his harsh captor. This leads him into the Washington DC underworld of ancient symbols, Masonic hints, and thrilling adventure.
The plot moves quickly and is full of unexpected turns, much like a challenging treasure hunt. Langdon works with Katherine, a Noetic Scientist and Peter’s sister, to solve puzzles to save Peter Solomon. Will he be able to save Peter? Readers can find out the rest through the novel.
The book contains a lot of details, which has increased its length, but it is still easy to read despite that. Detail is important in a novel like this since the reader needs to be familiar with the areas and the history to understand the plot. Therefore, some explanations and discussions are necessary within the book. The novel has a few confusing passages involving certain characters that make sense once you learned their backstories and realised how important they were to the plot.
The Robert Langdon series is one of my favourite series of mystery books due to the complexities and mental challenges they present. I like to try to solve the mysteries alongside Robert, trying to figure out who is to blame and where the characters’ paths will be taken by the puzzles. The ending of the novel is absolutely stunning. I can say that this is a book you should read if you enjoy history, action and mystery.
