All over the world enthusiastically people celebrated ‘Environmental week’ as a part of World Environment Day. Non governmental organisations (NGOs), private working organisations, prestigious institutions and in government sectors celebrated and upheld the motto of ‘No To plastic’.
But does only the motto ‘No To Plastic’ help reduce the pollution due to plastic? Will it help people to uphold and use eco-friendly items? Definitely a big no, isn’t it?
The number of plastics we use on a daily basis is enormous. We tend to forget that we also have equal responsibility towards our Earth and the eco-system. But as per the UN reports, plastic pollution is a global problem. Approximately 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic produced from 1950-2017 became plastic waste, ending up in landfills or dumped. Plastic pollution can alter habitats and natural processes, reducing ecosystems’ ability to adapt to climate change, directly affecting millions of people’s livelihoods, food production capabilities and social well-being.
UNEP’s body of work demonstrates that the problem of plastic pollution doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The environmental, social, economic and health risks of plastics need to be assessed alongside other environmental stressors, like climate change, ecosystem degradation and resource use, according to UNEP.
Enormous use of plastic is not only harming Earth but also the living organisms. The effects might not be instant but our future generation is going to face a lot of problems due to the enormous usage of plastic substances.
World Health Assembly states that, the world is facing a plastics crisis. Plastic pollution is found all around the globe. Plastics are negatively affecting people and the environment at each stage of their lifecycle – extraction of fossil fuel, production, manufacturing, use, recycling, and disposal. The impacts are felt in a wide range of areas, including on biodiversity, climate change, human health and human rights. This page focuses on the impacts of plastics and the chemicals they contain on human health, according to Geneva eznvironment Network.
The toxic chemicals which are used to make plastic have long last effects highly on women. Upcoming generations have higher impact. It’s really devasting to know that people show concern towards mother earth only in the first week of June. It’s highly disappointing that people act as if they got no responsibility towards protection of eco-system.
All over the globe pollution is the problem. Everyone wants to look for solution but not work on the solution, nor want to implement the plan to reserve the planet. It’s each of human beings responsibility to look after the nature. Many wildlife creatures have gone extinct. If you look for the root cause for all this extinctions of creatures, it’s our negligence towards the mother Earth.
Let’s unite and keep our Earth happy. It’s high time that we acknowledge our responsibility and work on it. Let’s reduce the usage of plastics. Let the motto be not confined to speeches and logos, rather it should be implemented in our life.
