Bengaluru: The BBMP is the next target ahead of the Lok Sabha elections after the Assembly elections. If the BJP is trying to win the BBMP at least somehow, the Congress leaders are planning to hoist its flag in the corporation as well. Hence, Somashekar, Byrathi Basavaraju and Munirathna constituencies are the target for Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar.
Yeshwanthpura, K. R. Puram and R. R. Nagar are the three constituencies that are now the focus of the upcoming BBMP elections. If these BJP defectors defeat the supporters of S. T. Somashekar, Byrathi Basavaraju and Munirathna, who were Ministers and are now MLAs, both the power and the motive behind it will be fulfilled. Shivakumar is said to have suggested re-division of wards.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has stated, “As far as I am aware, there can be no category re-division of wards. Elections are likely to be held in 243 wards. The Deputy Commissioner knows that action will be taken.”
During the BJP regime, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a meeting with a delegation of Former BBMP Mayors of the Congress party and leaders of the ruling party on the issue of classification of wards. It is learnt that discussions were held on BBMP elections and delimitation of wards done during the BJP Government and that the division of wards made by the BJP was unscientific, it is alleged.
