Kalaburagi: The widow of police head constable has urged the state Government to provide justice to her by taking stringent action against those behind the death of her husband. The police has arrested the accused tractor driver Siddanna in connection with the death of a head constable who had gone to stop illegal sand smuggling.
On June 15 midnight, head constable Mayur Chavan (51) was crushed to death by the tractor of illegal sand transport. It is suspected to be a murder. The grief of the family members who have lost the owner of the house has reached its peak.
Nirmala Chavan, the wife of deceased Mayur, has demanded that justice should be provided for the unfortunate death of her husband.
Mayur Chavan, a resident of Chaudapur Thaanda in Afazalpur Taluk, was working at Nelogi Police Station in Jewargi Taluk for the past 9 months. After finishing his meal at 11.00 on June 15 night, he said he was on night duty and went on patrol to curb the illegal sand trade near Narayanpura Village of Hullur Circle. Head Constable Mayur and Constable Pramod had gone on a bike. Illegal sand mining is going on allegedly unabated on the banks of Bhima River across Kalaburagi District. On June 15 night, Siddanna was taking the stock of sand on a tractor to sell it to illegal builders. Head Constable Mayur and another Constable Pramod, who was on patrol at that time, came forward to stop the sand transporting tractor. During the tractor chase, the tractor driver Siddanna hit the constable and the head constable on the bike. At this time, among the two who fell down, the tractor ran over Mayur. As a result, he died on the spot. Later, the trolley was left on the spot and the driver fled along with the engine.
SP Isha Pant visited the incident site and inspected it. The tractor driver Siddanna who escaped with the engine was arrested and the police laid a trap to arrest the owner of the tractor named Saibanna. The dead body of head constable Mayur was brought to his native Village Chaudapur Thaanda and cremated in his inherited land. Police officers including SP Isha Pant paid respects to the body of deceased Mayur. Three rounds of gunshots were fired in the air, a moment of silence was observed and the last rites were performed with all state honours.
Even earlier in the District, the illegal sand mafia had obstructed the duty of the police and created riots. People have urged the state Government to take stringent action against illegal sand mafia.
