No matter how much you enjoy driving and travelling, you will need to take a stop to stretch and eat at some time. Also, if you go on a road trip and don’t hunt for wayside restaurants, did you ever go on a road trip?
True travellers, they say, take road excursions and eat whatever is available. Legends, on the other hand, know the precise dhaba to visit while on the road. These dhabas in particular…
Manali – Leh – Chandra’s Dhaba
This dhaba, also known as Chacha-Chachi’s dhaba, is located in Batal. Don’t expect full-course dinners here; this isn’t your typical dhaba. It’s a simple roadside cafe managed by an elderly couple known to travellers as Chacha and Chachi. They’ve been operating their tiny dhaba for 45 years. Chacha-Chachi’s place has a devoted following, whether it’s for a steaming cup of tea or a basic rajma-chawal lunch.
Delhi – Nainital – Shiva Tourist Dhaba
This is the first prominent dhaba you’ll see on this journey. You must eat here because it is one of the best and most popular restaurants on this road. Their service is quick and efficient. The lassi is a must-order here.
Mumbai – Pune – Sunny da Dhaba
Without a stop at Sunny da Dhaba in Lonavala, this itinerary is incomplete. Sunny da Dhaba, easily one of the most prominent dhabas in the area, serves paneer butter masala and chicken tikka masala to visitors.
Guwahati – Tawang – DHABA End Dee’s Samaroh
If you’re new to road trips in Assam, DHABA End Dee’s Samaroh on the Tezpur-Tawang route is your best bet. Try the traditional Assamese cuisine, particularly the duck curry. You’ll discover wonderful non-vegetarian and vegetarian options here.
Bengaluru – Goa – Sai Palace/Rajasthan Dhaba
This is a long route with several restaurants along the way. Make a stop at the Sai Palace Restaurant (2-3 hours from Bengaluru) for a delicious breakfast. Also, between Hubballi and Dharawad, Rajasthan Dhaba is a wonderful place to stop for lunch.
