Mumbai: It has been confirmed that Karnataka state will host the National Legislators Conference (NLC) in 2025, with the consent of Chief Minister S. Siddaramiah, shared Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, U. T. Khadar. Khadar, who attended the three-day conference in Mumbai starting from June 15, described the event as a “new generation democratic experience.”
Khadar expressed, “The NLC, held every 18 months, will be hosted by Goa in the next session, followed by Karnataka in the subsequent session. I believe this is a step in the right direction and will bring together legislators from all over India to establish improved democratic norms and practices.”
He further highlighted the significance of the NLC as a platform for training young legislators. The Maharashtra Institute of Technology has a specialised school dedicated to organising training sessions and educating young graduates to become effective lawmakers and advocates of democratic values in the country. These educational and training sessions will also contribute to shaping better civil servants.
“In the sessions I attended, I expressed my views to the organizers, emphasising that the NLC has the potential to eliminate negativity and incorrect perceptions about the democratic process and lawmaking in our country. It can guide both seasoned and young legislators towards further transformation of Indian politics,” Khadar added.
Khadar’s outspoken expressions and observations at the event garnered appreciation from both elder and young parliamentarians, making him stand out.
The NLC is organised by the Government School of Political and Administrative Training, which is one of the departments of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology.
