Bengaluru: The traffic police who are betting to reduce the excessive traffic in Bengaluru city and enable smooth traffic have gone for drone cameras. They have launched use of drone cameras to improve traffic flow in crowded and traffic congested areas, especially during peak hours. Drone cameras are being used practically from June 19 in more than 20 junctions including Hebbala, Goraguntepalya, Tin Factory Bridge, Banashankari, Sarakki Junction, Ibbalur and Trinity Circle that have been identified in the city. Eight drone cameras have already been purchased under the Safe City scheme. Out of these 4 drones are allocated to Traffic Department. Wherever there is traffic congestion, it will be known about how far the traffic jam will be with the use of drone camera in such areas. Mostly, the police too will not know even if they are operating in the place.
By using the drone camera, information will be known about how far the traffic jam has occurred. The same information is sent to the Traffic Management Center (TMC). From there, information about traffic congestion is obtained and traffic diversion is done. City Traffic Department DIG M. N. Anucheth has informed that traffic personnel have been trained on the use of drones.
