Bengaluru: A total of 6,191 cases were registered against drug consumers and drug dealers in Bengaluru’s police stations during the last 18 months, and 6,261 kg narcotics worth about Rs. 117 crore were seized from the arrested.
Speaking at the programme of ‘World Anti-Drug Abuse and Trafficking Day’, Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said that 6,191 cases have been registered in Bangalore City Police Stations (until June 22, 2022 and 2023). Of these, 7,723 Indians and 159 foreigners have been arrested. Out of these, 943 are drug peddlers and 5,248 have been booked under the charge of drug consumption, he informed. 6,074 kg Ganja, 5 kg Ganja Oil, 2 kg, 554 grams of brown sugar, 15 kg, 689 grams of opium, 52 kg, 689 grams of MDM. A total of 6,261 kg including 914 grams of synthetic drugs, 3,406 different types of narcotic pills and 1,372 LSD strips have been confiscated.
All officers and staff under the jurisdiction of City Police Commissionerate have visited 388 schools, 253 colleges and 51 vocational colleges and created awareness among 1.95 lakh students. A special operation was conducted against those who were selling and consuming drugs near the educational institution for the past one month and action was taken against 130 peddlers and 1,003 addicts. Meanwhile, 204 kg Ganja, 1.195 Heroin, ans 171 KOTPA Act has been registered, he said.
To curb the sale and trafficking of narcotics in the city, the city police have launched a software called ‘BCP NDPS Portal’ to collect information about drug peddlers and addicts. Information of cases registered against peddlers and addicts in police stations will be recorded in this software. As soon as the case is registered, it will be known whether the accused is new or old.
Bangalore city police have handed over 2,117 kgs drugs seized in NDPS raids to ‘Drugs Disposal Committee’ as part of the day celebrations. Its total value is Rs. 21 Crore. The drugs were scientifically destroyed by incineration with the permission of the court. Rs. 92 Crore worth of 4,397 kgs of drugs were destroyed during the conference on drug trafficking and national security of southern states held on last March.
