For majority of the people, Deepavali is never complete without firecrackers. In fact, Deepavali is just a reason to burst crackers to a few of them. In fact, firecrackers light up any occasion and without it, the celebrations appear dull. The joy one derives from bursting crackers is immense.
But can we still afford to burst firecrackers and cause inconvenience to animals and birds and also environment that surrounds us?
I feel so pathetic and shameful whenever I see animals trying to find a place to hide from firecrackers. Isn’t this is act of arrogance? Not just animals, even birds and mother earth quietly suffer the impact that is unleashed from bursting crackers in the form of chemicals.
The chemicals which are used for the manufacture of firecrackers are namely, Copper, Cadmium, Zinc, Lead, Magnesium and sodium and they are hazardous. These chemicals have direct effects on human body especially nervous system.
Symptoms like vomiting, fever are common due to the direct exposure to firecrackers. It is more dangerous for pregnant women to get exposed to the firecrackers.
Also, those firecrackers that light up the sky with myriad colours contains radioactive and poisonous elements and they increase the risk of cancer.
Usage of firecrackers is eventually leading to cause air pollution and noise pollution besides affecting the global warming.
The people who already have heart, respiratory and nervous system related issues, they are more vulnerable to chemicals caused due to bursting of crackers.
It’s high time we took responsibility of the mother earth and be conscious of our acts. Although, we cannot change overnight, at least we can take one step at a time by saying no to firecrackers or by reducing its usage.
