Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police has introduced a new technology to prevent the increasing number of crime cases in the city. People in distress can turn to this technology if they are unable to contact the police during an emergency. It is “Safety Island”. Bangalore Police has installed around 30 machines across the city. Police have installed these machines especially in areas where violence against women is more frequent.
Bangalore City Police Commissioner Dayananda said that Safety Island and CCTVs have been installed under the Safe City Project. Safety islands have been established in different parts of the city. Through the camera and talk, the problem will be responded to quickly. This is the first time since its implementation that a foreign national has been assisted. This is the first success story of Safety Island.
One day a foreign national was traveling in an autorickshaw. He forgot foreign currency, laptop and other things in the auto. Then the foreign national gave information through Safety Island. After checking the CCTV camera, the officials responded. Later, the auto driver was found and the items were returned. He has used the safety island even without a mobile phone. He said that the case was discovered within a few hours.
This (Safety Island) has been established at various junctions of the city. The machine is blue in colour and looks like a telephone booth. If someone is in trouble and unable to report or call the police they can use these safety islands to contact the nearest police stations. CCTV cameras are installed near each security island. It provides real-time information about the person who called the police.
For all kinds of emergencies in Bangalore, the city police already operates an emergency toll free number 112. However, safety islands are said to be additional road devices for public safety in the capital.
