“We have created you in pairs” reads the verse for the holy Qur-an. The verse do not just limit to human spouses but to major of the creations like hands, legs, eyes, good and evil, luck for unluck and the list goes on in various angles. But the most interesting factor is pairing two individuals and bringing them together.
Throughout the world, the process involved in human pairing goes through various stages. Let us have a look at various culture and the practices involved beginning from India. Generally marriages in India were arranged and set up by the parents. Parents search a partner for their children and get them married. The consent of the child, likes and dislikes of the child were the least significant elements in early socio-cultural set up of India. Not just India, but was elsewhere too. In earlier times, the eldest male member was barred from marriage until all the female members of the house were married. Time has evolved and education have brought in changes, the involvement of family is the most attractive and precious thing in Indian weddings.
A completely anti-thesis form of marriage system is seen in America, in comparison to India. Here, the family consent is least bothered about. Here marriage is more a personal right than a cultural and religious significant one like India, whereas in Saudi Arabia the marriages are consummated with the system of Nikah done between girl’s father and a groom, with the consent of the girl. Here the interaction between man and women is not encouraged except for much needed cause.
In a world today, where dating and live-in relationships have gained the major importance, the Indo-Americans abroad are facing a major fear of having a non-Asian member in the family. The American right of, each individual having their own way of life trembles many Indian roots in America. Whatever the circumstances might be, the most important factor in any type of formats involved in marriage should be the consent of two Individuals. It is only then, a beautiful family is formed.
