Bengaluru: Its been 23 days since the implementation of Shakthi Scheme. So far more than 10 crore women have taken free rides. Meanwhile, there were rumours that the number of male passengers might decrease because women were given a free pass. But more men are commuting now than the number of men commuting daily earlier. Apart from this, the income from men travelling in the transport bus has also doubled.
Before the implementation of Shakti Yojana, 42 lakh men used to travel in state transport buses daily. But after the implementation of Shakti Yojana, the daily average has increased to 55 lakh men. That means an average increase of 13 lakhs per day, a significant growth. The reason for this is that when families are traveling together, they are going in the transport bus which is free for women anyway.
Even when there is rush, they are adjusting and traveling in the same bus without complaining. Some people still have a hard time, usually those who use the Government buses on a daily basis have continued to do so. Due to all this, the number of male travelers has been increasing.
As the number of male passengers increased, so did the income. In State Road Transport Corporations, Rs. 302 Crore revenue flowed from men travelling in the last 19 days. Before the implementation of Shakti Yojana, daily income was Rs 24.48 Crore. At that time, the transport corporation was getting Rs 12 Crore of income from men’s travel. Now the traffic income of men has increased to Rs 16.87 Crore. It is really special that despite the overall complaints and rush, more men are travelling in the transport bus and increase the profit for the corporations.
