“M. S. Dhoni used to drink Pepsi during the drinks break,” Wasim Jaffer relates an entertaining anecdote about an Indian legend.
Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, said that M. S. Dhoni used to consume Pepsi during the drinks break despite the fact that its contents are not suitable for athletes. Jaffer claimed that since MSD was accustomed to drinking the soft drink, he had no problems doing so.
On July 7, Dhoni turned 42 years old. He is one of India’s top cricketers and the only skipper to have won all three ICC white-ball championships. The former captain of India is regarded as one of white-ball cricket’s best finishers.
Despite all of his accomplishments, the cricketer from Ranchi is praised for maintaining his unflappable humility.
In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Jaffer praised Dhoni for adhering to the strategy he used to succeed, even though it did not conform to accepted norms. Jaffer recalled that the star batter liked soft drinks.
“M. S. Dhoni used to drink Pepsi during the drinks break. It’s not allowed. Fitness wise, there is a lot of sugar in it and sportspersons need to stay away from it. But he used to drink Pepsi or Coke regularly. He was that kind of a person. Just because you are playing at international level, where there is a lot of pressure, you don’t change your process. That is what I like about him.”
In December 2004, Dhoni made his international debut. The 2019 World Cup semifinal match versus New Zealand was his final contest for India. The Men in Blue lost by 18 runs in Manchester as the right-handed hitter was run out for 50.
