Inventions, simply put are thoughts or ideas that have taken solid form, things that did not exist before. Inventors are people like you and me, but more observant and persistent. They dwell on any idea and work till it becomes reality.
Can you imagine a world without the internet or smart phone? How did these things come into being? Did they appear out of thin air? Of course not! They are the outcome of an inventor’s far sightedness, observation and hard work.
Let us look at some inventions that changed and benefitted the world at the same time.
• The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in the year 1450.
• The electric light that brightened the world at night was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in 1879.
• Vaccination, was invented by Edward Jenner in the year 1796.
• Telephone, was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in the year 1876.
• Anesthesia was invented by Horace Wells in the year 1844.
• The numerical digit zero was invented by Aryabhatta around 500 AD.
• The famous game called Chess was invented during the Gupta period.
• The Radio was invented in the year 1895 by Guglielmo Marconi.
• The Television was invented by John Baird in the year 1926.
• Airplane, was invented by Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright in 1903.
• Automobile was invented in the year 1885 by Karl Benz.
These are to name a few. Further, can we live in a world without any of the above listed?
The printing press allowed the expansion of knowledge, while telephone made it easier to talk to our loved ones who stay far from us. Anaesthesia, without which we would not have the courage to get operated. Radio, one of my favourites, as it brought melody into our everyday life. Travelling around the city and then to another country became a reality, thanks to automobiles and airplanes.
Today, the minute the power goes off we have a backup, because it is nearly impossible to live without electricity, the inventor needs a bow. The list goes on, the bottom line is that we enjoy so many things that was considered luxury once upon a time, and the inventors were jibed at, just because they wanted to do something which not all understood or approved. It takes a lot of courage, patience and persistence to diligently work towards our goals/ ideas along with the resistance of the world.
Let us learn from them and work hard no matter what the situation is like.
